MagLune aims at improving our understanding of the past activity of the Moon using three complementary approaches: laboratory study of lunar rocks, interpretation of magnetic fields measured around the Moon, and modeling of the lunar dynamo in the liquid metallic core. The history of the magnetic field – recorded in the rocks – will fuel the numerical and analogic models. All together the aim is to better understand the evolution of the interior of the Moon.

This project is funded by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) for the period 2015-2019. The PI is Jérôme Gattacceca (CEREGE) with co-PIs Mark Wieczorek (IPGP), David Cébron (ISTerre) and Benjamin Weiss (MIT).
